Can BPEL Maestro recover in case of a disaster?

Yes. Persistent state in BPEL Maestro consists of deployment information, which is stored on a local file system, and process instance state, stored in a relational database such as Oracle or MySql. The deployment information is backed-up to recover from a system crash when a process is being deployed. The recovery of the process instance state relies on the recovery capabilities of the relational database management system.
There is a caveat for transient processes, which (in contrast to persistent processes) use an in-memory database that ships with BPEL Maestro. Instances of transient processes can therefore not be recovered in the case of a disaster. The choice of transient or persistent processes is a per-process deployment choice in BPEL Maestro. Persistent processes require an external database accessible through JDBC.
